About this place
Taereung & Gangneung Royal Tombs in Nowon-gu are Joseon Dynasty royal tombs on the UNESCO World Heritage list, where Queen Munjeong and her son King Myeongjong with Queen Insun are buried; they have been preserved for nearly 500 years. A 1.8-kilometer forest path through old pines links the two tomb sites. Along the way stand stone sculptures, ceremonial gates and T-shaped shrine buildings. The Royal Tomb Museum of the Joseon Dynasty on the grounds explains royal funeral rituals and how the tombs were built.
