About this place

Maeheon Citizen's Forest, a large park in Seocho-gu whose nearest station is Yangjae Citizen's Forest (Sinbundang Line), opened in 1986 ahead of the Seoul Asian Games and the 1988 Olympics. Long called Yangjae Citizen's Forest, it was renamed in 2022 after Maeheon, the pen name of independence activist Yun Bong-gil, whose memorial hall and statue stand north of Maeheon-ro. The south side has monuments to the victims of Korean Air Flight 858, the Sampoong Department Store collapse and the Umyeonsan landslide. Metasequoias, zelkovas and ginkgoes color the park in autumn.
