Manpo Makguksu

Korean · North Korean foodSindang-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul

About this place

Manpo Makguksu has served Hamgyong Province food near Yaksu Station since 1978. It is run by descendants of North Korean refugees, who named it after their hometown of Manpo. The main dish is white jjimdak (steamed chicken) topped with blanched green onions instead of a soy-based sauce, served with a DIY dipping sauce made from vinegar, mustard and special seasonings. Palm-sized hand-rolled dumplings and buckwheat noodles (makguksu) are also on the menu, and the two-floor dining room is often full of elderly locals.
