About this place

Chungmuro Cheonggukjang serves cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew) in Chungmuro, Seoul's film district. The stew has a strong smell, which locals describe as "stinky cheese meets aged miso," and it is an acquired taste. At lunch it costs 7,000 won and arrives bubbling with pork, tofu and kimchi, along with seasoned vegetables, steamed egg custard and garlic-marinated bossam (pork belly slices). Workers in the area have eaten it for generations.
