About this place
Cheonchuksa Temple, on the slopes of Dobongsan Mountain, was founded by the monk Uisang in 673 AD and is 1,350 years old. It was first called Okcheonam (Jade Spring Hermitage), after its spring. A Mumunan (Gate of No Gate) meditation center was set up here, and the main Daeungjeon Hall holds a Wooden Sakyamuni Triad Buddha statue, an old wooden altar and 19th-century Buddhist paintings. Temple Stay guests meditate, hike to Madang Rock, eat Buddhist meals and sleep in the modern Mumunan quarters.
