About this place

Siheung-dong Historical Cultural Street is a walking trail near Geumcheon-gu Office Station. Its 800-year-old ginkgo trees mark the old Siheung Palace site, where King Jeongjo stayed on trips to honor his father. The area, the center of Siheung County since the Three Kingdoms period, also has 3-story stone pagodas, 500-year-old village guardian junipers and the birthplace of Joseon scholar Kang Hee-maeng, who influenced early Korean farming literature. Quiet alleys lead to temples, tombs of national founding contributors and sites of resistance to Japanese occupation, including a former Dangun shrine built in 1930.
