About this place

Hongneung Arboretum, now usually called Hongneung Forest, opened in 1922 where Empress Myeongseong's tomb once stood. Run by the National Institute of Forest Science, the free research forest holds about 2,000 plant species, including cherry trees planted in 1972 and a banso pine from 1892. Since late March 2026 weekday visits need no reservation, but guided tours are booked through Forest Trip (Sumnadeule). Pets, food, picnic mats and tripods are banned, there is no parking, and Exit 3 of Korea University Station (Line 6) is a 7 to 10 minute walk.
