About this place

Heunginjimun (Dongdaemun, the East Gate) is the eastern gate of Hanyangdoseong, Seoul's old city wall, and Korea's Treasure No.1. It was first built in 1398, and the two-story wooden gate tower dates from an 1869 rebuilding. It has a semicircular outer wall (ongseong), and its name has four characters. Heunginjimun Park beside it climbs toward Naksan along the old wall, and Exits 6 and 7 of Dongdaemun Station (Lines 1 and 4) lead straight to the gate, which is free to see.
