₩

For a monthly salary on a 40 hour week, this is the monthly ordinary wage ÷ 209 hours (see the ordinary wage calculator).

Regular employees

Workplaces with 4 or fewer employees do not have to pay premiums (Labor Standards Act art. 11(2)).

Holiday hours follow

By default, hours after midnight that fall on a regular workday are not holiday work. Choose the shift start date to count the whole shift as holiday work.

Shift

Public holidays are paid holidays only at workplaces with 5 or more employees. Work on an unpaid day off is overtime only when the week goes over 40 hours.

Earlier hours on workdays of the same week, without overtime or holiday work. Used for the 40 hour weekly limit.

How it is calculated

  • Overtime (beyond 8 hours a day or 40 hours a week) gets 50% of the ordinary wage on top (Labor Standards Act art. 50, art. 56(1)). Work on an unpaid day off is overtime only when the week goes over 40 hours.
  • Night work (10 p.m. to 6 a.m.) gets 50% on top, added to the overtime or holiday premium when they overlap (art. 56(3)).
  • Holiday work gets 50% on top for the first 8 hours and 100% beyond, with no separate overtime premium (art. 56(2)). By default each hour follows its own calendar date; a shift that starts on a holiday and runs into the next holiday is counted as one.
  • Part-time employees working beyond their scheduled hours get 50% on top even under 8 hours a day (Fixed-term and Part-time Employees Act art. 6(3)), up to 12 such hours a week (art. 6(1)).
  • Premiums do not apply with 4 or fewer employees (art. 11(2), Enforcement Decree table 1). Breaks: 30 minutes for 4 hours, 1 hour for 8 hours (art. 54(1)). The weekly limit is 52 hours including holiday work (art. 53(1), art. 2(1)7).
  • Time is split by the minute and each line is rounded to the won before adding.
